2006 Performing Arts Summer Camp

Camp Description

The 2006 YES Performing Arts Camp presents an opportunity for middle school aged youths to become stars in their own community. The six-week camp will culminate in two professional theatre presentations at the Chrysler Museum Theatre starring the youth participants. TV and film star and YES Board of Directors member Dawnn Lewis will direct these special performances (pending schedule confirmation). Twenty-five (25) participants are challenged to grow in their ability to think creatively, write with heightened confidence, enhance their acting skills, and learn how to create powerful, positive media images. The youths participate in a variety of writing and directing seminars, acting workshops, music and dance sessions, and rehearsals that result in polished productions. Woven through the fabric of the camp is a wonderful combination of creativity, education and fun. Because of the high demands of the production environment, the camp includes ample time for the participants to wind down and play. Recreational activities are geared toward team building and include games and various field trips. The final two weeks of the camp will be totally hands-on technical and dress rehearsals as the young people prepare to debut their production of the acclaimed stage play “The Phantom”.

The camp will be held July 10 – August 19, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at YES facilities located at 2130 Stalham Road, Chesapeake, VA 23324.

The 2006 YES Performing Arts Camp is a partnership between Youth Entertainment Studios, Inc. and Refuge Church of God in Christ.
